What are the Best Windscreen Brands?

There are several different windscreen manufacturers. Major windscreen brands are:  Pilkington, PPG, Carlite, Mopar, Saint-Gobain Sekurit (SGS) and AP Tech are OEM manufacturers. Aftermarket manufacturers are Safelite, Guardian in America. Dongguan Brightpower, Heshan Zhengda and Shiyan Huachao are Chinese aftermarket manufacturers.

Choosing the best windscreen brand is not so much choosing a manufacturer, but rather, choosing the type of windscreen you wish to have installed on your car. There are three types of windscreens: OEM, Dealer and Aftermarket.

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. These windscreens are placed on a vehicle at the time the vehicle is manufactured.  If you need to get your windscreen replaced, you can purchase an OEM windscreen. They are made to the exact specification as the original windscreen on your vehicle. They meet all the governmental and auto-maker standards as the original. They are the most costly replacement windscreens.  Three major OEM windscreen brands are made by companies such as: Pilkington, PPG, and AP Tech. A replacement OEM can be purchased from the brand’s suppler.

Dealer windscreens are just like OEM windscreens except they have the dealer symbol on the windscreen. An example would be Toyota would be stamped in a bottom corner. Again, dealer windscreens are manufactured by:  PPG, Pilkington and AP Tech.

Aftermarket windscreens are obtained through a company not affiliated with the dealer and who do not carry OEM windscreens. Examples of aftermarket brands are SafeLite and Alibaba. What will be missing on these windscreens is any Dealer symbol. They may not be manufactured to the same standards that OEM or Dealer windscreens have to meet. The benefit of these aftermarket brands or they are far less expensive.

What is confusing is that some manufacturers can provide all types of windscreens (OEM, Dealer, Aftermarket). The best way to navigate the difference is to choose a windscreen replacement specialist to help you make the right choice for your vehicle. Auto professionals generally prefer the OEM and Dealer options. Individuals, of course, are drawn more toward lower costs. Do you research and talk with a windscreen replacement specialist. You want to be sure you are in compliance with all governmental and safety regulations.
