They have started using heat treatment for this purpose and it is proving to be quite effective. The method they are using requires them to pump the temperature of the car’s interior up to 140 degrees. At this heat, the stink bugs hiding anywhere inside the car get killed off. The vehicle processor has set up a heat treatment structure where up to 30 cars can be heat treated at a time.

How Helpful Is It?

The heat treatment process has been quite helpful in eradicating the stink bugs from the vehicles that are about to be shipped to Australia from the US. However, this process still takes up a great deal of time to complete. While the heating of the cars is only done for about two to three hours, the entire fumigation cycle takes about 32 hours to complete. Moreover, reaching the temperature required for killing the stink bugs isn’t easy as well. A lot of energy is required for raising the temperature of the building where the cars are treated.
